We choose the public Pick of the Day with published rules you can audit: side, price filters, and flat 1u grading.

If you only want the practical checklist for using a free card, start with free MLB picks today: how to use a model card. Below is the selection rule itself.

What the free pick is (and is not)

The homepage posts one public moneyline play when a play clears the bar. That is the Pick of the Day.

It is not:

The model can still build a fuller card (up to five plays). Free readers get the public POD with side, line, and edge when it qualifies. The rest of the slate is reserved for Pro. The record page grades the public POD history at flat 1u. Nothing gets deleted after it loses.

The current selection rules

A play becomes Pick of the Day only if all of these are true:

1. Win probability ≥ 52% on the side we would bet

2. Edge between 3% and 10% (inclusive of 3%, up through 10%)

3. Among plays that clear both filters, we take the highest edge

If nothing clears the bar, we post no free pick that day. That is intentional. Silence is better than stretching a long-shot edge into a public tip.

These rules have been live since June 19, 2026. The earlier rule (always publish the single biggest edge) looked smart on paper and underperformed in the graded sample. Details: why the public POD now requires 52% win probability.

Why a mid-edge band instead of “biggest edge wins”

Edge is model win probability minus the market’s implied probability. A huge edge number often means a long price and a lower win rate. In our graded history, the 10%+ bucket was the weakest group. The mid bands held up better.

So the free pick is not “the wildest number on the board.” It is the best qualifying play inside a band that has actually behaved better in our sample.

Why the 52% floor matters

You can have a positive edge and still be under 50% to win (common on dogs). That can be fine for a full card and for bankroll math. For a single public pick that many people treat as “the play,” we want the model’s own win probability on the same side of a coin flip.

The floor does not make the pick safe. It just stops us from publishing the softest sides as the free headline.

How we grade it

Every public POD is tracked at flat 1u risk. Same stake every day. Wins and losses stay on the record. If you are new to unit language, read what does 1u mean in betting.

We do not:

What you should do with the pick

1. Check that the line has not moved hard against the posted price.

2. Keep the stake flat.

3. Skip stacking it into a parlay (why we avoid parlays).

4. Expect losing days. Process is not a win streak (variance in MLB betting).

FAQ

Do you always post a free pick?

No. Only when a play clears 52% win probability and the 3–10% edge band.

Is Pick of the Day always the #1 ranked play on the full card?

Not necessarily. The highest-edge play on the internal card can sit outside the public band. Among public qualifiers, highest edge wins, and we label that play Pick of the Day on the public history.

Will these rules change again?

Possibly, if a larger graded sample says they should. When we change them, we say so in public, the way we did on June 19.

Where is today’s pick?

On the homepage. Dated archives live under `/picks/YYYY-MM-DD`.

Pick of the Day is a rules-based free moneyline: 52%+ win probability, 3–10% edge, highest edge among qualifiers, graded at flat 1u, with a public record. If you want the pick, use the card. If you want the process, this is the process.
